As a demonstration of the successful outcomes of cooperative group work and of the service entrepreneurship principles it teaches and practices, the Center for Purposeful Living owns and
operates California Fresh Catering, a thriving food catering business located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Through its service-minded, customer-comes-first attitude and its meticulous attention to quality and detail, CFC is building an ever-growing clientele ranging from corporate offices and customer service representatives to churches, social clubs, and individuals, and it enjoys an outstanding rate of repeat orders.
CFC also functions as a service learning laboratory for CPL’s one-year Transformation Through Service program.
Students have an opportunity to put into practice in CFC the principles they learn in their classes—of personal responsibility, the power of a positive and cooperative attitude, and much more. Through their involvement in all facets of the operation—marketing, menu consultation, scheduling, food preparation, delivery, and serving—they hone their skills in organization, problem-solving, interpersonal relations, time management, and other qualities that aid the social entrepreneur and servant leader.
